Hotel Rooms
How do you feel about hotel rooms? Love them or hate them, you are bound to sleep in them at a point in time of your life.
What are the initial things you do when you enter a hotel room? Do you have any cleaning rules of thumb? Do you check whether everything works, such as the television, fridge and air-conditioner? Do you also check whether the doors and windows close properly, for safety? People have had harrowing experiences of break-ins in the night when they were sleeping.
Do you have any preferences, such as being on the ground floor, the first/second/third floor etc.?
Are you able to sleep well on the very first night of your stay in a hotel room? How long does it take before you are able to sleep well? Are there any factors which account for this? For instance, do you prefer the mattress and pillows to be as soft as feathers or as hard as granite?
The following are pictures of various hotel rooms in my country, Ghana in West Africa, that I have put together over the years. Which is your favourite and how does it make you feel? What boxes of yours does it tick? Which additional ones do you like?
A person may check into a hotel room for business or for leisure. Regarding business, it could be for private work, conferences or group meetings.
Regarding leisure, it could be for a short stay to relax and escape from the mundane, routine life of work and home. It could also be for a sightseeing tour, a vacation with family, a honeymoon, a tryst or even an illicit affair. Thus, hotel rooms hold many sizzling secrets.
If hotel rooms could talk, I wonder what stories they would tell …………

Sometimes I wonder about the other people that have stayed in the room! LOL
Yes, we can’t help thinking about that. π
The comfort you would expect to have when you enter a hotel room, i guess depends to a large extent on the budget you are running. While a plush hotel would come with all the comfort and pampering, a low budget hotel will come with the bare necessities – a shared bathroom facility which may be outside of the room of the guest. These are things I don’t compromise on when i check into a hotel: tv is non-negotiable, the freshness of the room, and yes, i like my mattress hard – not like granite though, lol. And i check to see if there are any hidden cameras anywhere in the room…….i have a way of checking it, lol Generally though, hotel rates in Ghana are a bit over the roof!
Very useful tips π
Hmmmmβ¦Interesting thoughts. I always carry a small bed sheet in my bag, which comes in handy when I end up in a budget hotel in the line of duty.
I was looking out for the bit about illicit affairs. It finally popped up but at the tail end of the list. I remember the story you told us in class about βlaptopsβ in your line of work when you travel. That was the first time I heard that term.
Hahaha, you remember the laptops! π I think it’s a great idea to carry your own bed sheet for a budget hotel!
This is a great piece. For me, sleeping well for the first two nights is not possible. I’m happy to have read this, as well as the comments because I usually don’t check much out. Always just eager to get into bedπ€
Yes, most people don’t sleep well the first two nights. Glad the article is useful. It’s always good to carry out some safety checks. π
I enjoy staying in hotels and look forward to doing so more often when necessary. A popular hotel room in Akosombo is pictured in one of the pictures. Although I have always slept comfortably and worry-free in hotels, I appreciate you bringing to my attention some important points to remember moving forward. Important piece!
Yes, staying in hotels is a pleasurable experience. Good to bear these safety checks in mind. π
Hotel rooms 1 and 4 look lovely. A clean hotel room with modern accessories does it for me. I usually sleep well because staying in a hotel usually means I donβt have to worry about traffic or how to get breakfast π.
Yes, they are. Yes, staying in a hotel cuts out the traffic and the thought of what to cook. π
Very true. Have trouble sleeping outside my room. Wake up in the middle of the night most timesπ
It’s seems that’s very common. It takes some time to get used to a new environment. π
Indeed if only they could talk!! Interesting piece. So many of the rooms look quite familiarπ.. I personally donβt sleep too well on the first day plus I like to keep the tv on just as a reassurance or the light on in the bathroom, that provides a lot of comfort !!
Hahaha, I understand the need for some light to avoid total darkness. People usually use the first night to adjust to sleeping in a new place π΄
Lovely piece. Hotel room 5 looks like a room I slept in at Aburi. I usually sleep well from day 1.
Since I use hotel accommodation for business usually by the time we get back from say the conference I am too tired and fall asleep.
Good you don’t have trouble falling asleep π΄. Thanks for your comments π
I guess these are the finest hotels in Ghana. The first thing I check when I visit a hotel is the bed and the pillows to make sure they are comfortable.and the wardrobes. I have had scary experiences in hotels. One time I saw a snake on the inner side of the window. The hotel management had to compensate me with a package to visit on any weekend. Another interesting experience was when I saw a ladies underwear in the wardrobe. It’s not always bad experiences, one day I saw dollars under the bed somewhere in the north.
Interesting reading. Lovely hotel room pictures. I guess they are upmarket hotel rooms since budget hotel rooms hardly meet the quality of rooms shown.
I hardly sleep for my first and second days in hotels unless it’s a familiar hotel. I prefer a well laid bed with a hard mattress. Soft mattresses give me greater discomfort.
Nice one. Well done.
Yes, they are upmarket hotel rooms. It’s common not to be able to sleep well for the initial nights. I understand hard orthopaedic mattresses are good for the back. Thanks for the compliment π

Oh my goodness! A snake! Thank God you weren’t hurt! The underwear is unfortunate. And dollars πΈ! Very interesting experiences.
Nice pictures. Hotel rooms really hold a lot of secrets. Thats an interesting article. Kudos
Thanks so much π
My favourite is room 5, but I also 8,1 and 7. The first thing I check when I enter a hotel room is the bathroom. A bad bathroom equals a bad stay.π
Great to hear, they are lovely rooms! So true, there’s not much you can do with a bad bathroom. It spoils the whole experience. π
Hahaha, unfortunately they can not talk. Thank you for the interesting article. Great job!
On my first day at a hotel room I’m unable to sleep well. This I think is due to change of environment. But some hotel rooms create an exception to this factor. Some of the rooms make you feel as if you are at home. Some hotel rooms also have complex chatelπ which sometimes makes you feel like an illiterate.
Yes, many people are unable to sleep well the first night due to the change of environment π
