Why Vintage?
I have always been fascinated by the way our past follows us into the present.
A photograph, a familiar song, an old piece of furniture, the smell of a particular dish, or a place I haven’t visited for years can suddenly open a door to another time. And yet, looking back is not always about nostalgia. Sometimes the past gives us a different way of understanding where we are now.
That is what I mean by My Vintage Outlook.
“Vintage” is not, to me, about living in the past. It is about carrying the richness of experience with you while remaining curious about the present.
Over the years, I have collected more than possessions. I have collected stories, memories, friendships, conversations, journeys, discoveries and, inevitably, a few regrets. I have travelled, worked, observed, wondered, changed my mind and occasionally got things spectacularly wrong. I have learned that some of life’s most lasting lessons arrive quietly, often disguised as ordinary moments.
This blog is where I explore some of those moments.
I write about travel, relationships, family, art, culture, memories, places, people and the curious business of being human. Sometimes a journey takes me somewhere new; sometimes an old memory takes me somewhere unexpected. A painting can make me think about a person. An object can bring back an entire chapter of my life. A conversation can stay with me for years.
And sometimes, something happens that makes me stop and think, There is a story here.
So I write it down.
I am particularly interested in the things that become clearer with time: what really matters, what we once worried about unnecessarily, the people we should have appreciated more, the opportunities we were afraid to take, and the unexpected ways in which our lives can change.
I don’t pretend to have all the answers. In fact, one of the privileges of getting older is discovering how many questions remain interesting.
My Vintage Outlook is therefore less about looking backwards than about looking at the present with the benefit of having lived a little.
If you enjoy stories about places and people, reflections on life’s ordinary and extraordinary moments, memories that refuse to disappear, and the occasional detour into art, culture or simply something that has made me stop and think, I hope you’ll find something here that stays with you.
