Gym
People always encourage us to exercise. A sound mind in a sound body, they admonish.
The painting below, which is acrylic on canvas, depicts people in a gym scene.
You can, no doubt, see people, dumbbells, barbells, kettlebells, exercise balls and a bicycle. So, how did we get here? Shall we take a go at it?
First of all, I covered the edges of the canvas with painter’s tape. This was to ensure that I would get white edges after I had finished the painting and removed the tape.
I then sketched the images on the canvas with a red pencil. I then started to paint groups of the images colour by colour. I started with a wine colour.
I wanted to use only three colours in all. I thought of a colour that would contrast well with the wine and decided on blue. Thus, I followed by painting another group of images blue.
Well, it seemed like we were gradually getting there. I now had to fill in the background colour. I decided on a shade of orange.
After filling in the background colour, I then removed the painter’s tape.
Voilà, let’s exercise!
